Pours cloudy burnt orange, strong cherry aroma with citrus and hops, tart taste, crisp, lost to great crescent cherry ale.
Poured from bottle center into a tulip glass. Hazy dark copper with a finger of mocha colored head, of mixed consistency. High but fine bubbled carbonation, short-lived retention. Fermented purple grape, white grape juice, and black cherry aroma. Dry and tart cherry body is uniform throughout the profile, with some purple grape juice poking through. More tart than bitter. Dry wine-like finish. The grow your own series is appealing for its back story, but this beer was a little light and disappointing for me.
Not even close to a kreik but the cherries give it a nice underlying funk that is not at all abusive to your palate
A: Pours out a murky brown color with an almost-white head. Not all that much to look at.
S: A lot of sweetness coming off on the nose on this beer: caramel, and maraschino cherries. I get no hops on the nose at all.
T: I get some puckering effect from the tartness of the cherries which tells me, though, that this beer isn't sweet. There is nothing wrong with this beer, I just don't care for it. Rogue lists it on their website as a Pale Ale, BA lists it as a Dubbel - it is neither. It's identity is lost somewhere.
M: Big carbonation and a medium body.
D: It's quite drinkable, however, put everything together and it's just not a good beer for me.
very dry with no sweetness, more wine like than Kriek-like
Purchased from Chatoe Rogue possibly Christmas/New Year 2010 garage sale. 12-22oz. for $35/$80.
A spectacularly rich malty aroma with just a hint of cherries.
Wow perfect balance of cherry flavor with a great tasting ale. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys fruit beers and to those who don't. Perfect balance between a good ale and a fruit beer.
I'm impressed. Didn't have high expectations. The cherry notes are well intergrated and complementary to the base beer that leans towards the malty side. Both sweet & sour notes. I love the idea of the Chatoe Rogue Series. Try this one!
Pours an apple butter color. Smells of cherry and tastes like cider. Very ok, but not a winter beer
Tart cherry and phenolics clash w/each other in the nose.
A harsh alcohol flavour muddles the cherry (that is overpowering anyway), wheat and barley.
Its equal parts cherry witbier and American dunkelweisen.
On the positive side, the body and carbonation are spot on. Medium body & effervescence w/a dry finish.
