About Ale

Ale is brewed from malted barley using a top-fermenting yeast. This type of brewing yeast is much older than the yeast used in brewing lager. It ferments faster and can often be ready to drink after only a week. Fermentation also occurs at higher temperatures, typically between 62 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Ale might therefore be considered the easier of the two to brew, and Ale breweries will often produce a greater volume of beer. Ales tend to have a fruity aroma and a sweet, full-bodied taste.
