Belgian Strong Ales can be pale to dark copper in color. Lighter Belgian Ales have fruity aromas, with a spark of citrus and hops, whereas darker ales will have a complex aroma of a rich malty sweetness and caramel. Considering the strength of these full-bodied beers, mouthfeel is surprisingly light. Lighter strong ales go well with hors d-oeuvres or fatty and salty snacks. They also make an excellent math for Italian dishes with a creamy sauce, or for the fruitier beer, Thai and Indian cuisine. The darker beers, as always, match well with cheese and barbecued meats.
