Their aromas may have a toasted character, and there will be hints of chocolate in darker brews. The flavor of a Doppelbock will be very rich and malty, and, as in the aroma, there may be notes of chocolate and toasty flavors in darker brews. Slight fruitiness is also often detectable. Bitterness in these beers will be moderate, and should always take second stage to malty flavors. Beers of this kind are smooth, range from medium to full in body, and finish quite dry.
