Old Brown Dog Ale March 7, 2012
Overall Rating

This is my first experience with Smuttynose and I couldn't be further from disappointed. This is pretty good for a brown ale. Not really adventurous, but good none the less.

Hops hops and hops! I like the pine and citrus notes, but I can really only handle this for one drink. The hops are bitter from start to finish. I prefer residual sweetness in an IPA.

Sierra Nevada Stout March 7, 2012

I love this beer! All of the roasted flavors and thickness you want in a stout. It's really drinkable too. I could easily drink a 6 pack of this.

Sierra Nevada Porter March 7, 2012

One of my favorite SN styles. Perfect amount of roasted flavors and malt. I just wish the mouthfeel was a little more thick.

Saranac Vanilla Stout March 7, 2012

Slight vanilla taste with roasted malt and coffee. Not bad for a vanilla infused brew.

As far as winter warmers go, this isn't too bad. I expected more out of Sam Smith though. Quite a bit of malt with some lingering hops in the end.

Samuel Adams Wee Heavy March 7, 2012

Loads of malt and and warmth. I expected much more out of this due to the price. Overall, it still is a pretty good beer.

This is pretty good for a RIS. This is about what I expected from Sam Adams. It isn't really adventurous. All of the usual stout notes are there, but the alcohol is pretty present.

Ruthless Rye IPA March 7, 2012

I love this beer! I just wish it wasn't seasonal. Sierra Nevada hit a homerun with this. It has more malt than I expected and it finishes dry.

Vanilla note is almost overpowering. I prefer Breckenridge's Vanilla Porter, but that isn't saying much.

I don't care what anybody says, but I love this IPA. It is definitely my favorite from Flying Dog. There's just enough bitterness with citrus and grapefruit notes. The alcohol is extremely well hidden.

Pere Jacques March 3, 2012

This is a review specifically for the 2010 batch. It was aged for about a year and half. Alcohol is pretty hidden. Tons of malt and other flavors come to the front as it warms. Would love to try this fresh for comparison.

Citrus notes with quite a bit of carbonation. A little bit of a hop presence too.

Ovila Abbey Quad March 3, 2012

Awesome! Sierra Nevada really outdid themselves! This doesn't really compare to real Belgian quads, but this is great for an American brewer. Alcohol is well hidden and the flavors improve as the beer warms.

Rogue Mom Hefeweizen March 3, 2012
Overall Rating

Well balanced. I didn't detect a huge hop presence like the last reviewer. The beer I had was fresh too because I had it on draft at a Rogue brewpub. Anyway, it's bready and citrusy with a slight banana note.

I expected more hops. The malt character comes to the front once it warms up. Overall, not a bad beer at all.

A little underwhelming. I was expecting more due to the high praises I've heard. All of the flavors seem muted compared to other good strong pales.

Great Belgian tripel. Good notes of banana, citrus, spice, and a tinge of alcohol.
