Kellerbiers are lagers that have not been filtered or clarified. They are known for minimal carbonation. Beers of this kind are gold to deep amber in color and have aromas of hops and malt. They may also appear cloudy due to the greater proportion of original brewing yeast held in suspension. Kellerbiers are smooth and refreshing, with flavors of sweet, caramelized malt and a dry finish. They are great as an aperitif; the gentle maltiness and dry finish can serve to whet the appetite of guests before a meal.
